What this expansion is

Lured, enslaved and left to rust. The developer's setup is that the Alloyed Collective now stirs from the scrap of their fallen allies, driven by one purpose: returning home. The expansion sends you deeper into Solus territory, and its stated endpoint is the Collective's ultimate creation.

Survivors2 added

  • OperatorAvailable to owners of this expansion

A command interface rather than a damage rotation. Every drone under Operator's control is a tool: you can have a companion launch you skyward for attacks from above, or overcharge it and send it into a crowd to detonate. Marking a target with the crosshair and issuing one command triggers whatever the queued drone carries, with a tongue of flames, a strafing run and a healing burst named as examples.

  • DrifterAvailable to owners of this expansion

Described as the junk drawer of the Risk of Rain world, with the qualification that this junk drawer can pick you up and throw you off a cliff — or throw a monster off a cliff, or throw a chest at a boss. Landing Blunt Force makes enemies spill Junk, which is spent either immediately for a burst of damage or saved up to build Temporary Items.

Stages it added

  • Crumbling cliffs, scorching deserts and buried machine caverns across Solus territory
  • Conduit Canyon — cable-strewn peaks reached by restoring the power nodes

What you fight

  • Solus Invalidator — known to some crew members as the cute rolling idiot. Get out of its way or have your items temporarily invalidated.
  • Solus Scorcher — opens by hurling a large blob of oil that slows you, then follows up with a flamethrower, so the slow is the setup rather than the threat.
  • Six new standard enemies in total.

18 new tools, plus a full drone roster

The expansion leans on drones as both a survivor mechanic and a general one. The named roster covers Bombardment (paints ground under targets into a lingering blast zone), Cleanup (turns fallen enemies into gold and health), Freeze (chilling crowd control), Jailer (periodically roots priority threats), Barrier (periodic shielding) and Transport (lifts non-boss enemies into the air and drops them).

  • 18 new tools
  • 6 new standard enemies
  • A full roster of combat and utility drones

Why it plays differently

  • Temporary Items are a game-wide system rather than something unique to one survivor: the 1.21 patch notes record a fix for Engineer's turrets not receiving them.
  • Item examples from the store text show the utility bent of the expansion: Hiker's Boots to reach higher ground and stack crit, Box of Dynamite to turn a drone fleet into demolitionists, and Faraday Spurs for an electrical build.
  • Both new survivors move other actors rather than only damaging them, which is a different design axis from the earlier expansions.

Owning it in a lobby

Only one player in a lobby needs to own the expansion for its monsters, stages and items to appear for everyone. Players who do not own it cannot select the two survivors, and cannot permanently unlock the new items, logbooks or other content.
